Pots ready to be fired. Kunògò, Mali, 1991. Photograph by Barbara E. Frank.

A typical range of pottery vessels ready for firing includes (left to right, rear) large water storage jars, smaller slip-painted water cooling jars, a water pitcher, and a couple of incense burners, (left to right, foreground) wash basins, couscous steamers and cooking pots in various sizes. In type, these vessels are similar to those produced by potters from other ethnic groups throughout the sudannic region.
