Many of the design motifs as well as the their arrangement on the surface of the kuduo, once again reflect the formal affinities between the Mamluk vessels and their Akan 'descendants.' The use of geometric designs, rosettes, and 'cursive' motifs that may be seen as an emulation of Arabic script (a 'pseudo-script') derive from the Middle Eastern bowls. However the integration of figurative imagery depicting various types of animals and occasionally humans are Akan innovations.
