This ancestor figure from Oron Ibibio peoples of southern Nigeria is carved with the distinctive headgear, scarification patterns and beard that identify the identity of the deceased.  Several of these were placed beneath the eaves of the family ancestral spirit house as memorials to generations of ancestors.
